Spring 2008: Human Rights Issues on the Border
In March 2008, IHRA took part in an exciting trip to explore human rights and border issues. Students and community attorneys travelled to the Mexico-U.S. border. Topics explored included: immigration policy, labor conditions, border crimes, and free trade. Students walked through the desert where migrants struggle to enter the U.S., met with Border Patrol agents, spoke with Mexican entrepreneurs, and witnessed federal court proceedings for the crime of illegal entry.
